President Barack Obama to Visit Florida Tech

By University Alliance on September 19, 2012

Barack Obama, in the first-ever visit of a United States president to Florida Tech, made a 35-minute speech to about 3,000 in the Clemente Center on Sept. 9. The stop, while not representing an endorsement, brought the president to campus on a campaign swing through Florida, following the 2012 Democratic Convention in Charlotte, N.C. The south campus looked like a big outdoor slumber party overnight before the day of ticket distribution and on the eve of the visit as people sought a good place in line.

Florida Tech freshman and communication major David Barkholz said it was an incredible student learning experience. “This was the first event I attended as a member of the media and the experience was unbelievable. How many writers can say the first event they covered was a presidential speech? It was a day I’ll never forget.”
