In a recent commencement ceremony at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center, graduates from the summer and fall semesters at the Florida Institute of Technology were awarded their degrees.
Of the group, 911 received graduate degrees while 458 received undergraduate degrees. Of this group of 1,369, about 582 earned their degrees through online programs.
Florida Tech graduates are “always reaching and always looking for answers,” Florida Tech President Anthony Catanese said at the ceremony. Catanese, paraphrasing a Beach Boys song, told graduates, “Whatever you do, be true to yourself and be true to your school.”
Catanese praised the good academics at Florida Tech as well as the success of the sports teams, particularly the Florida Tech Surfing Team, which is the top-rated in the nation.
The school honored two students – molecular biology major Jason Gilmore and marine biology major Ann Wassick – with the Faculty Honors Award for maintaining a 4.0 grade point average. Wassick plans to return to Florida Tech in the fall of 2013 to begin grad school.
Graduates came from 37 different U.S. states and 21 countries.
