Melbourne, FL – The Florida Institute of Technology has been chosen as one of 14 recipients for this year’s NASA Small Business Technology Transfer program contract award. NASA’s coveted technology award’s funds will allow the school more resources to further develop new flexible environment-friendly polyurethane insulation foam. NASA hopes to utilize the foam for future space applications including cryogenic insulation and energy storage and absorption. Research associate professor Feng Yang of the FIT Department of Chemistry will be taking the lead role in managing the work among manufacturing vendors on the production of scale samples of the foam.
