Melbourne, FL — Florida Institute of Technology has been recognized as a top tier National University by U.S. News & World Report for the fourth straight year. In the just-released 2014 edition, the university was named a Tier 1 Best National University. U.S. News assesses more than 1,500 of the country’s four-year colleges and universities in its annual study. Florida Tech was again listed as the second-highest ranked private National University in Florida, behind only the University of Miami. Lesser rankings in the report include Tier 2 and unranked schools.
The 55-year-old Melbourne-based Florida Tech is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a Doctoral Research Intensive university, which distinguishes it from institutions that only offer degrees at the bachelor’s or master’s level.
Florida Tech President and Chief Executive Officer Anthony J. Catanese said the university’s focus on student success is its continuing hallmark. Also significant in the rankings, Florida Tech was recognized as the #2 National University in the country for fostering international student experiences, behind only New School in New York. U.S. News states: “In a global culture, befriending and learning to collaborate with students from other countries can be rewarding personally and professionally.” Further, the university was again named among the nation’s best “A-Plus Schools for B Students.”
Meanwhile, Florida Tech continues to earn additional recognition for expansion as well as educational value. Last year the university was named one of the fastest-growing in the nation by the Chronicle of Higher Education, whilePayScale.com ranked Florida Tech graduates’ mid-career median salaries in first place among Florida’s universities, and listed Florida Tech among the top 20 universities in the South—both public and private. Annually recognized as one of "America’s “Top Colleges" by Forbes, Florida Tech is also honored by The Princeton Review and recommended as a “Best in the Southeast” university.
