U.S. News & World Report Ranks Florida Tech a Best Online Program for Veterans

By University Alliance on May 08, 2013

U.S. News & World Report has ranked graduate business programs from Florida Tech University Online (Florida Tech) in its inaugural Best Online Programs for Veterans rankings. The new rankings, released on May 7, acknowledge the benefits of education programs offered online by regionally accredited institutions that have been previously ranked in U.S. News’ 2013 Best Online Education Programs rankings.

The ranking criteria for veteran’s programs require that universities demonstrate the following:

  • Participation in a wide range of government-funded programs that make credits portable and affordable to individuals with military experience
  • Offers credit-granting courses in the Defense Activities for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) catalog
  • Membership in the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium
  • Are certified for the G.I. Bill and participates in the Yellow Ribbon Program
  • Earned a numerical rank in the broader 2013 U.S. News Best Online Education Programs rankings

Criteria that previously ranked Florida Tech in the Best Online Education Programs included services available to students, class size, quality of instructional faculty, retention and graduation rates, and student indebtedness at graduation.

"Florida Tech takes great pride in being recognized by this new ranking," said Brian Ehrlich, Assistant Vice President, Director of Online Learning at Florida Tech. "We take our commitment to supporting our servicemen and women very seriously."

Online learning programs benefit people with military experience as they are often relocated for work.  Students have the security of knowing that they can continue their coursework during transition periods without having to retake courses or apply to a new university. Florida Tech’s 100% online degree and for-credit certificate programs are made possible by technology from University Alliance.

Florida Tech is consistently ranked a Military Friendly School by G.I. Jobs magazine. They also provide Veterans and spouses, as well as dependents of deceased or disabled veterans, with a 10% discount on graduate tuition. As an added benefit, in January, the university announced that it would not increase tuition for the 2013-2014 academic year.
