Florida Tech Offers Special Tuition Rates for Law Enforcement, Public Safety Personnel

Florida Institute of Technology, consistently ranked a Tier 1 Best National University by U.S. News & World Report, is honoring the contributions of the nation’s first responders with special tuition rates for qualified law enforcement officers and public safety personnel.

Sworn or authorized first responders who are full-time employees of local, state or federal agencies may qualify for a special undergraduate tuition rate of $250 per credit hour or a 10% tuition discount on graduate courses.

“As a former police sergeant and military veteran, I’m personally familiar with the daily sacrifices of law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics and other first responders in protecting our communities and upholding our nation’s laws,” said Marshall Jones, Director of Online Programs for the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts at Florida Tech. “We are proud to support these domestic heroes in their educational and career advancement.”

The special tuition rates are available to eligible law enforcement officers and public safety professionals employed by police departments, sheriff’s offices, fire departments, and agencies of the U.S. departments of Justice and Homeland Security, such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Marshals Service.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, the percentage of local police departments that require new officers to have a degree or some college coursework has doubled since the 1990s. Additionally, many federal agencies, including the FBI and Secret Service, require special agents to have a bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university.

Public safety and law enforcement professionals can choose from among more than 40 associate’s, bachelor’s and master’s degree programs available 100% online at Florida Tech, including Criminal Justice and Homeland Security, Information Technology/Cybersecurity, MBA in Management and Applied Psychology with a Concentration in Forensic Psychology.

The online programs, which are powered by Bisk Education, feature downloadable professor-led video lectures that can be accessed 24/7 via mobile device, laptop or desktop.

The Melbourne, Florida-based university’s online bachelor’s degree programs recently were ranked in the top 40 of almost 300 schools nationwide by U.S. News & World Report. Faculty members in the College of Psychology and Liberal Arts’ online programs bring real-world experience in law enforcement and public safety, among other disciplines.
