Course Description
Introduces the basic concepts of information technology and globalization. Identifies ethical, social and cultural considerations in the global marketplace. Includes the complexities of information security and privacy, and the importance of data management and retrieval systems. Also includes enterprise solutions, government policies and regulations, and emerging technologies.
Course Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to
- Recognize different types of information systems and information technology
- Categorize information systems into types
- Discuss the concepts of database and database management systems
- Describe the managerial, social and ethical implications of network computing, messaging and collaboration
- Identify threats, methods and cybercrime symptoms as well as the common defenses of information resources
- Describe e-commerce characteristics and types
- Discuss mobile computing in business functional areas such as finance and marketing advertisement
- Describe intra and inter e-commerce applications
- Describe social networking and networking principles applied in business
- Appreciate the support of information systems to the functional areas such as production-operations management, marketing, accounting, finance, and human resource management

Lecture: Business Intelligence and Decision Support Systems

- Discuss organizations’ need for business intelligence (BI), BI technologies, and how to make a business case for BI investments
- Describe BI architecture, data mining, predictive analytics, dashboards, scorecards, and other reporting and visualization
- Examine the value of data, text, and Web mining
- Describe decision support systems (DSS), benefits and structure
- Take a forward look at the future of BI in the form of mobile intelligence
