My name is Crystal Wilson. I’m from Concord, North Carolina, and I’m graduating with an MBA today. I’m a single mom; I have three children; I work full time. I have a really demanding job, and right now I work at Flextronics as a supply chain manager and I just want to venture out into managing people more and doing more work globally. And I felt like an MBA would make me more competitive to be able to achieve those goals.
Even at the time of my undergraduate degree, I had two children and the same job, and I just needed something that I could work around the schedule. It’s really been perfect because the way Florida Tech has designed the degree program is really true to life. I have a position where I work with people all over the world, and at Florida Tech … your professor could be on another continent from you. Your fellow students are somewhere else – you have the same challenges. So, I really appreciated that aspect of it because I could really apply it to my personal and professional life.
I did not take any breaks. I rode it out all the way. A lot of hard work but I was extremely motivated. I have three kids. They were my motivation; I do it all for them. I would encourage anyone who thinks that they don’t have the time, or that they just can’t do it, to take it one day at a time and to go for it. You know, don’t think about it, just do it. Being here graduating today is just really surreal right now.
